A vacancy exists for a Family Engagement Worker to support our Early Learning Program.  This position is located in the Office of Student Services and works with families and children ages 3-5. The Family Engagement Worker assists in assessing the needs of program participants, makes appropriate referrals and provides follow-up as needed; assists with the implementation of parent involvement activities; assists with the implementation of the health/nutrition service area.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree preferred, high school diploma/GED required
  • Must possess current PA Driver's License and ability to provide own transportation
  • Ability to work
  • Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Prior experience and/or training in social services preferred
  • Ability to work with and relate to young children and families of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and neat records.
  • Current child abuse, criminal history and FBI fingerprinting clearance within the year

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Complete application and intake process with families; enter and maintain accurate child/family information in program database.

  • Case management and file maintenance for assigned students/centers, including medical/dental and family information records.

  • Report all suspected child abuse to Assistant Program Administrator/Family Services and/or Program Administrator/Head Start.

  • Maintain ongoing contact with families.

    • Contact families in a timely manner to complete Family Partnership Agreements.

    • Conduct home visits with assigned families, as needed.

    • Follow-up with families of children with attendance issues per program protocols.

    • Maintain up-to-date information on all assigned families.

    • Make appropriate referrals to community resources, and refer to Family Engagement Team Supervisor when necessary.

    • Keep a running log of all family contacts and follow-ups using the appropriate computer system.

  • Assist with Parent Involvement activities and encourage parent participation.

    • Assist with training sessions, workshops and meetings for parents.

    • Assist with Parent Orientation

    • Assist with Center Council organization and Center Officer Training.

    • Assist with Policy Council organization using the Federal Regulations concerning parent involvement as guidance.

    • Notify parents of all Center Committee meetings in conjunction with the classroom teacher(s).

    • Attend parent meetings and workshops, as required.

    • Document parent workshop attendance.

  • Assist with end-of-year paperwork.

  • Attend the Health Services Advisory Committee as a resource person.

  • Communicate with Service Area Specialists concerning the needs of children and families (ex. disabilities, health, nutrition)

  • Maintain confidentiality.

Salary/Schedule: $14-$16.80/hour, 7.5 hours/day, 206 days/year
